AUGUST 2018 NEWSLETTER

Is it hot enough for you ?!?!?!?
It seems that July has apologized this morning, for being so brutal, with the brief rain shower. It’s been a weird year for weather. Unusual winter and spring and now a record hot summer. I hope y’all are staying cool. At home, we built a nice screened in porch to enjoy, but it’s been too HOT to use it. We are hoping for a cool down soon.

It’s business as usual around here at the Cottage. This summer has been too hot to be very exciting. The long arm machine is running almost constantly trying to keep up with all the beautiful quilt tops y’all are making. As usual, several shipments of new fabrics continue to arrive every month. They are always so beautiful and exciting. With all the new fabrics coming in the door, I have had to make some choices.  Be sure to check out over 30 bolts of older fabrics (premium quality), I moved off the shelves & onto the sale rack ($6.99 @ yd). And of course, you will want to see all the beautiful new prints too.
Row by Row continues for another 5 weeks. You still have time to get your block kit and make it up. Even if you aren’t doing a full quilt, our block makes a great table topper, or the center of a music quilt. And don’t miss your “photo op” on the front porch. We still have some official World Tour tee shirts left. If you want one, don’t delay, I can’t get any more, it was a one time thing.

If you haven’t seen the web site/shop!  www.littlecottagequiltshop.com , please check it out. We are continuing to add more fabrics, buttons & are starting to adding notions to the web shop for your convenience and late night shopping.

I would love feedback on what you think would improve it. Email me at littlecottagequilts@gmail.com.

Grab Bag

August's Grab bag is a beautiful table topper made with the 60 degree ruler. Kits are made up with red roses and purple pansies. they are all much more beautiful than the picture. (sorry, lemons are already gone) It’s 1st come, 1st serve. You won’t want to miss your favorite. And check out my take on this pattern, same pattern, same ruler, totally different look! (*wink*)

Keep on sewing and see you soon,

Donette

Valuable Info

Fabric ID

Quite often I hear y’all say that you are using fabric out of your stash, or somebody gave you a piece of fabric, & “I don’t know what it is. How do I tell what the fiber is? Can I use it to make microwave Bowl Buddies? Or is it a good fabric for a quilt top?”

I came across an article, in the Aug/Sept issue of “Sew News” magazine, on this very subject. It says it better than I can and has a reference chart to boot. It’s great info. Feel free to print it out and keep it on file in your sewing room.

(I had a bit of difficulty with the format of the article. So, I apologize for the weird layout)
