December 2020

Posted by Donette littlecottagequilts@gmail.com on

I purposely delayed sending this month’s blog/newsletter because of Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I know your inboxes have been flooded with sales advertisements, mine too. I decided to wait until it settled down a bit so this one didn’t get lost in the shuffle. LOL. 😜

We enjoyed our very quiet and low key Thanksgiving this year, the first year with just the 2 of us. It was different! Sad in a melancholy way, we really missed our family. But as we were eating in relative silence, Christer looked at me and said quietly; “no drama”. I about fell off the chair laughing!! 😂 He was right! Nobody was crying or fighting or mad or hurt. But we still missed all that along with the fun.❤️

We had a well organized schedule for work here at the ranch and at the shop to be accomplished during our Thanksgiving break. But the weather and a minor vehicle issue threw a monkey wrench into our plans. We did get things done, just not as much as I would have liked. The poor shop building went begging. It’s hard to put up siding and paint when it’s raining and the wind is screaming out of the north, cold and brutal. I would love nothing more than to report that our cute little vacation cottage is complete and ready. But it’s getting closer. The kids will be taking turns using it this month so we can “distance” celebrate with each family separately. I’ll take what I can get!

I will be so glad to see the end of this very turbulent year. It’s been so weird, in so many ways. I think even Mother Nature is expressing her frustrations by throwing crazy weather into the mix. It’s been a very strange, strange year full of many, many “firsts” for our lifetime. Throwing curve balls out of the blue, left and right. I know that y’all are right there with me.

I’ve been struggling to find a positive spin on 2020, but it’s very elusive. It was really brought home for my when my oldest daughter told me she was trying to muster up a little Christmas spirit, but just couldn’t manage it. I think I’m feeling a bit “Grinchy” myself! (that’s terrible I know!)

But, we still have the love of our family and the support of our wonderful customers and friends. We appreciate y’all very much as you have continued to be there for us and adapt to this “new normal”.  So many of you have asked us how we are doing. Sending us beautiful, caring emails, cards and visits to the shop. We are good, we are doing OK, we are surviving. We continue to assess the business of Little Cottage Quilt Shop, on a daily basis, making decisions that we are hoping will be good ones for us all. Please bear with us as we try to make sense out of this brave new world we all face.

Soooooooo, if you are looking for a relaxing “pick-me-up”, come and visit us at the shop, or browse the website littlecottagequiltshop.com.

We have a few darling new fabrics to brighten your day. A new baby collection by QT, Lullaby has arrived. Precious colors and patterns to compliment the cute block panel.

QT Fabrics has a collection called “Artworks”. It’s comprised of single images like art pieces. Another one joined our collection this past month, a photo-realistic dinosaur patch print, 36” panel.

And of course with the cooler weather, it’s “Cuddle Time” !!! Everybody loves the soft and comforting feel of Cuddle Fabric. We have a large selection with a few more on the way. We also have Cuddle throw kits that are a quick and easy gift idea. Kits include all the fabric needed and the pattern, for different kinds of throws, ready to go. And don’t forget the ever-popular Infinity Scarf kits. They sew together in minutes and are always a very welcomed gift.

As we start the new year, with a bit of trepidation, we are hoping for calmer, friendlier months ahead with new projects, more learning and happy times.
Wishing y’all a healthy and enjoyable Christmas.
Stay safe and Keep Sewing,
Donette

Tip of the Month
December 2020 Tip:
Having your hard working sewing machine serviced on a regular schedule will save you time and costly repairs in the long run.
If you use your machine almost everyday – have it serviced once a year
If you use your machine occasionally - have it serviced every 2 years
If your machine has sat unused for more than a year – have it serviced before you start using it to avoid damage.
(when machines sit for long periods of time, they start to seize up and will require deep cleaning and new lubrication)
The very best thing you can do for your machine is USE it !!!

Warriors Heart Quilt project. We still need more quilts. We received a very generous donation from the "Giver Connection" in Kerrville. Linda Thompson brought in 10 beautiful quilts for the project. We are so grateful for their skilled talents. If you are looking for a new project, please consider making a quilt to donate to this great project, it is a truly fantastic cause. Use up some of your stash, or you can purchase a kit from the Cottage. Thank you so much for your participation in this cause.

“Warriors Heart” is a treatment center for physiologically wounded active military, veterans and 1st responders. Sometimes these wounds are the most long lasting because they are unseen. You can check out Warriors Heart on their website.  www.WarriorsHeart.com

You may choose any pattern for this quilt you wish. Quilts must be no smaller than 44” X 58” or larger than 60” X 72”. Each snuggle quilt must be finished completely, (quilted, bound & preferably have a label about the person who made it) and returned to Little Cottage Quilt Shop. Once turned in, all finished quilts become the property of Little Cottage Quilt Shop and will be donated to Warriors Heart in Bandera.
